You need to know that there are certain myths that have been created about blogs, bloggers and the blogosphere.
Here are a few of them:
It doesn't matter who you are because anyone can start a blog!
Well, that's not entirely true. Some obvious requirements are: 1) you need a computer that you know how to use, 2) an Internet connection and some experience using the Internet, 3) a host for your blog; you can use either a paid or free host. Lastly, you need the ability to communicate your thoughts and the willingness to do the work.
Anyone can set up a blog
Some blogs may be a little easier to set up than other. There may be useful templates and simple setup instructions, or the format may be a little more technical. You have to know what you can handle.
Blogging doesn’t take up that much time!
It may or may not. Some people blog just for a hobby, while others make it a full time job. Your issues may be basic or complex. Maybe you just want to share your thoughts or dissect complex issues. So depending on what you're blogging, you may spend lots of time a week or very little.
You can get rich blogging
This is true in a few cases (not as many cases as bloggers would have you think). Don't listen to every 'guru' who tells you that all you have to do is A, B, and C then sit back as the cash rolls in. Making money online in any way is not easy and requires time and effort. Maybe you'll get rich and maybe you won't.
I only highlighted a few of the Internet myths on blogging. There are many more. I say that you should always do the research for yourself and find out through first hand knowledge. Just try blogging for awhile and see if you like it. If you do, then learn how to do more. It may not be for you.
I will say this, though, blogging can be a very powerful and useful tool to build a online presence and help to promote a business. There are many ways to make money from blogging, but you have to decide which one you want to pursue. Don't get sidetracked by all the information available out there. Pick a niche and stick with it.
